What Is the Unity Creed of 2020?

Ordained Minister, M.Div.
March 14, 2026

The Unity Creed of 2020 is a modern creed — a formal statement of belief — written to articulate what the Bible teaches about the unity of the Christian Church. Unlike the ancient creeds of the early Church, which addressed controversies about the nature of God and Christ, the Unity Creed focuses on a single, pressing concern: the call for all believers in Jesus Christ to be unified as one Body.
The creed was authored by Rev. Christopher D.F. Warrington, MDiv, in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2020, and endorsed by The Christian Chain, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the vision to see the Christian Church United and Unleashed. It was written in response to the growing problem of division and fragmentation within the global Church — and the urgent need for a clear, biblically-grounded declaration that unity is not optional, but commanded.
What the Unity Creed Says
The creed opens with a preamble stating that without unity of believers, those without a saving faith will be unable to fully see the Lord. From there, it presents seven articles of belief covering the glory that unity brings to God, the role of love and the Holy Spirit in achieving unity, the call to avoid discord, and the vision of a Church unleashed to reach a fallen world.
Together, these seven statements form a comprehensive, biblically-rooted affirmation that unity among believers is God’s command, Christ’s desire, and the very means by which the world will recognize the disciples of Jesus.
Why the Unity Creed Matters Today
The global Church is fragmented across thousands of denominations. While theological diversity has its place in the Body of Christ, outright division — marked by competition, hostility, and indifference between churches — directly contradicts the prayer of Jesus in John 17, that His disciples would “be one” so that the world would believe.
Whether you are Baptist or Catholic, Reformed or Pentecostal, the Unity Creed invites you to affirm what Scripture already teaches: that God is glorified when His people are unified, and that a united Church is far more effective at sharing the Gospel than a divided one.
